Calm

Calm™ is formulated with the building blocks needed for the body to produce GABA, an organic chemical that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Sub-optimal levels of acetylcholine are believed to result in anxiety, mood disorders, and chronic pain (1), in addition to being linked to brain disorders, such as epilepsy and Schizophrenia (2). This product is best taken before bed but can be taken any time of the day to reduce anxiety and/or promote tranquility. Calm can be combined with any with any other Neurologix product and although its effects are often felt within 60 minutes of taking it, best results are achieved after 3-4 weeks of regular use.

Ingredients

*General supplement information is listed in accordance with the National Institute of Health dietary supplement fact sheets, unless otherwise noted (a)

Vitamin B1 – Thiamin, also known as B1, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a critical role in energy metabolism and therefore in the growth, development, and function of cells. The protective effects of thiamine against diabetic vascular complications have been well documented, however slower absorption and low bioavailability are limiting factors.

Form: Benfotiamine is a fat-soluble synthetic derivative of thiamine (1) that can penetrate the nerve cells to treat neurodegenerative diseases by reducing inflammation (2)

Cysteine – An amino acid found in high-protein foods, which the body uses to produce a powerful antioxidant – glutathione. Cysteine is important for protein synthesis, detoxification, and collagen production as well as skin elasticity and texture. (3)

Form: N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is a modified form of Cysteine, used to treat acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose or for liver detoxification (4). NAC has also been used to prevent/reduce the severity of respiratory disease and to promote a faster recovery after exercising (5).

Taurine – An amino acid found in the brain, retina, heart, and platelets (blood cells). Taurine has important functions in the brain and heart and supports nerve growth. It is often taken to lower blood pressure, improve athletic performance/recovery, and calm the nervous system (6) and is increasingly being used to treat metabolic diseases, such as diabetes or inflammatory diseases, such as arthritis. There is some evidence that Taurine reduces oxidative stress and protects neurons during a stroke (7).

Form: Neurologix uses pharmaceutical grade, free form L-Taurine.

Lemon Balm – An herb from the mint family, which has been used medicinally for over 2,000 years for nervous system health (8). Today, lemon balm is used for anxiety, stress, insomnia, and indigestion; it’s also a powerful antioxidant, known to reduce oxidative stress (9). Lemon balm is a modulator of mood and cognitive function, and acts as a mild sedative (10)

Form: Lemon balm extract powder offers a concentrated form of the herb, presenting a wide range of cognitive benefits, including improved concentration, memory formation, and logical and verbal reasoning (11).
